7. Soundgarden- Down on the Upside It's been a while since the days when our radio stations played "Black Hole Sun", "Jeremy", "Lithium" and other so called grunge songs non-stop all day long. Since then, Pearl Jam has began to suck worse than they have ever sucked before (and, as we all know, they have sucked since the beginning and will suck till the end) and Nirvana has become an over-played call for cliches and a deduction in heroin prices. But, whats this? Soundgarden just released a new ablum? Kim Thayil cut his hair? Chris Cornell got a decent suit? You guessed it. And the radio stations finally have something else to play besides No Doubt and Presidents of the USA. And MTV has somehow got a hold of 3 of the latest Soundgarden videos, which feature various desert scenes, people strapped into chairs in front of TV screens, and weird spiralling bright coloured shapes. MTV makes me sick. But, as always, we must look past the money-craving band members and record labels to the pure sound of their creation. On this album, they rock, puke, and devour all infidelity in the world of "grunge". There was a time when everyone said grunge was dead. There was a time when everyone said punk was dead. There will probably come a time not too far away when people will say industrial is dead. and We pray to got that Rap, whether spoken or not, will die as soon as possible. But if there are still fans, and the band still rocks just the same dreary melodies as before, it will never die. Back to the Music Reviews |
